Germanwings is a low-cost airline based in Cologne, Germany. It operates services to over 35 destinations in Europe and to 16 destinations from Stuttgart. Its main base is Cologne Bonn Airport, with a hub at Stuttgart Airport. The airline was established in 2002 and started operations on 27 October 2002. It is wholly owned by Eurowings. Its main competitors are more established no-frills carriers such as Ryanair and easyJet as well as the other recent low-fares start ups such as HLX.com and Transavia Airlines. Germanwings' primary bases are Cologne Bonn Airport and Stuttgart Airport, from which it serves 37 other cities throughout Europe as well as Turkey.
